BE THE CHANGE.

As part of the Gaining Ground Sustainability Institute of Mississippi, an exciting new non-profit already doing some great things around the state, we recently got together with a group of recent graduates of the Mississippi School of Math and Science on an exciting new project right here Mississippi. We were able to convert a school bus to a model for alternative, renewable energy utilizing biodiesel and solar power and now hope to turn it into a sustainable ”farm on wheels” – a rolling greenhouse, chicken coop and more that will serve as an educational outreach tool for Gaining Ground throughout Mississippi and the south. Other features include worm tea and compost bins, a rainwater catchment system that will be used to irrigate our plants once the greenhouse roof is installed and a chicken coop on board! School children will benefit from the ability to see and experience models of sustainability, learn about growing/raising their own food and hopefully inspire the next generation to rethink their relationship with and obligation toward caring for our environment.

Last July, the team took the bus on the road cross-country to test it out, raising both money and awareness and spreading the word about what Gaining Ground is doing in our state before returning to Mississippi to continue its mission. The team was blogging during their trip and visiting schools and organizations along the way.

Please consider supporting this project and help us reach our goal by donating today to the Gaining Ground Sustainability Institute of Mississippi! Contribute any amount, it all adds up! And if you are a school, organization or event that would like to see the bus visit your town, then Request A Visit or contact us at msmobilefarm@gmail.com!

We will love only what we understand.

We will understand only what we are taught.”
